Olympics Football 2024: Who's Playing, Where To Watch, Who Will Win Gold?

Unfortunately, team GB will not be involved in Olympics 2024 Football, but there will still be some top nations and star names taking part. From Thierry Henry’s France to Javier Mascherano’s Argentina, there will be some excellent football played as the nations play it out for a gold medal.

2024 Olympics Football: Group A

Two big names make up Group A in the 2024 Olympics Football, with France having the best squad in the competition due to their strength in depth from the u23s through to first team.

The other team who will likely be following France into the quarter finals from Group A will be the USA, who have a strong squad with many players from MLS included in the 22 players travelling to France.

The Guinea squad features former Liverpool player Naby Keita as their captain, and some other names from European leagues, although admittedly lots of young players will be involved for the African nation.

Finally, New Zealand will have some A-League stars in action, but will have a difficult task up against the three other nations included in their group.

2024 Olympics Football: Group B

Among Group B are the 2022 World Cup winners Argentina, managed by former Olympian himself Mascherano. They will have four of the names involved from the 2022 World Cup, including Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez and Benfica centre back Nicolas Otamendi.

Also in the group are dark horses to win gold at the 2024 Olympics Football, Morocco. A team who reached the 2022 World Cup Semi-Final and have PSG’s Achraf Hakimi as their captain as well as others with European football under their belt will be tough to beat.

Iraq are one of the least likely to win gold among the 16 teams involved, but they will prove a tough team to break down, especially with them representing their country in the biggest sporting event of all.

Finally, Ukraine make up Group B in the 2024 Olympic Football, and they have many players available who ply their trade in the Ukrainian Premier League. The fact that many of the players play together for Dynamo Kyiv, Shakhtar Donetsk,  and other clubs in Ukraine might be beneficial to them in this competition.

2024 Olympics Football: Group C

Spain, who are recent winners of the recent Euro 2024, will have no players available that featured at the tournament. But, they still have some excellent talent available in their squad, including Fermin Lopez of Barcelona, Sergio Gomez of Manchester City, and Eric Garcia of Girona.

As you can imagine, they are strong favourites in Group C to fend off the Dominican Republic, Egypt, and Uzbekistan, all of whom are quite far down in the odds to win gold in the 2024 Olympics Football.

Similarly to Ukraine, Egypt will be pleased to have a lot of players who have played together at club level in what is a young squad. Despite their youth, they will fancy their chances to finish 2nd in this group and go through alongside Spain into the last eight.

Junior Firpo of Leeds United will feature for the Dominican Republic, a team who will be looking to put up a fight in Group C in the 2024 Olympic Football event.

Rounding off the groups in Olympics 2024 Football are Japan, Paraguay, Mali, and Israel in a rather wide open group.

Japan are well-known for developing excellent young talent and are favourites to win the group, but it will no easy task against the likes of Mali who have an excellent side heading to the Olympics.

Similarly, both Paraguay and Israel will believe their team is strong enough to put them through to the final eight after the group stage, especially when they don’t have to face the likes of Spain, France, or Argentina in their opening games.

All of the matches will be available to watch via BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Sport, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, or Discovery+. This includes both men and women matches in Olympics Football 2024, with it yet to be confirmed where a lot of the matches will be played on TV just yet.
